South African fans can rejoice as the beloved dance competition, Dancing with the Stars, is set to make its highly anticipated return to local television screens. The show, which pairs celebrities with professional dancers in a bid to win the coveted title, will once again showcase the talents and charisma of South Africa’s favourite stars.
According to Bona Magazine, the last time Dancing with the Stars South Africa graced our screens was in 2018, with singer-songwriter Connell Cruise taking home the title in the show’s debut season. Now, after a five-year hiatus, the competition is back for a second season, much to the excitement of dance enthusiasts and TV audiences alike.
This exciting return is made possible through a collaboration between Primedia Studios and Rapid Blue, the production company owned by BBC Studios. Jan du Plessis, President of Primedia Studios, confirmed the news, expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership. “Primedia Studios is delighted to be joining forces with esteemed and prolific production company Rapid Blue, which also produced the country’s previous spectacular and much-loved local edition of Dancing with the Stars,” he said.
He added, “We are incredibly proud to add this global phenomenon to our Primedia Studios’ fantastic ‘shiny floor’ content slate. It underlines our quest to bring the biggest and best local formats to mass South African audiences.”
Ziyanda Ngcaba, Managing Director of Rapid Blue, echoed this excitement, noting the contribution of South African dancers to various international versions of the show. “It’s time to celebrate our local dancers, celebrities, and the love of dance,” she stated.
