South African superstar Tyla was the centre of attention at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, where she hosted the show, performed new music, and made history as the first African artist to win the Favourite Global Music Star award.
The exciting event took place on Saturday, June 21, in Santa Monica, California, and Tyla made a bold entrance in a stunning Roberto Cavalli dress as her brand-new song, ‘Bliss’, played in the background.
“Hello, Nickelodeon! Everybody say, Tyla, we wanna party!” she shouted to a cheering crowd. And party they did, Tyla brought high energy, jokes, and fun vibes throughout the whole night, proving she was the perfect host.
In addition to hosting, Tyla got the special honour of introducing one of her biggest idols — global superstar Rihanna who received the Icon Award. Although Rihanna couldn’t attend in person, she shared a heartfelt video message with fans.
“I am beyond honoured… I am even more honoured to be able to share this moment with all of you because none of this would be possible without you,” Rihanna said.
“This is a big deal for me. And I just want to take this moment to remind all of you that wherever you are right now is significant and crucial to where you are about to go.”
Later in the evening, Tyla’s big moment came when she was announced as the winner of the Favourite Global Music Star award. As she celebrated with fans, she said: “This has been so fun. I’m so happy I came to party with you guys. This was the best party ever!”
And in true Nickelodeon fashion just as she said those words, Tyla was covered in green slime, laughing and dancing with the crowd.
The 22-year-old wasn’t done yet. She gave fans another surprise by previewing a second new song, ‘We Wanna Party’, which matches her joyful theme of the night. She even wore a cropped top with the same phrase printed on it.
‘We Wanna Party’ follows her recently released single, ‘Bliss’, as part of her upcoming album, though the title and release date have not yet been revealed.
Tyla’s fun, charm, and major win have made her moment at the Kids’ Choice Awards one for the books and fans around the world are ready to party right along with her.
