Singer Mawhoo, whose real name is Thandeka Nontobeko Ngema, has touched the hearts of many with her emotional hit song Uzizwa Kanjan. But what many fans didn’t know is that the song holds a deep and personal meaning for the 30-year-old artist. Speaking to Daily Sun, the Bonga hitmaker revealed that the song was not just about heartbreak in love, but also about the pain of growing up without a father.
Mawhoo explained that Uzizwa Kanjan was written as a heartfelt message to the father she never knew. “It’s not only about being heartbroken from a relationship, but also about being raised without a father,” she said.
She opened up about how difficult it was to grow up without her dad and how that pain is something she still carries today. “That pain of saying I’m here today and I was only raised by my mum and things are happening,” she added. Her mother raised her alone, and Mawhoo has never had a relationship with her father.
Despite this painful past, Mawhoo says she is grateful for the love and support the song has received from fans. “To the people who support us, I’m grateful for that,” she said warmly. The emotional depth of the song clearly resonates with many people who have gone through similar experiences.
She also shared how Uzizwa Kanjan was an answer to her prayers. At the beginning of the year, Mawhoo prayed to God for a hit song that would touch people’s hearts and rise to the top. “I know that I’m not perfect and this industry has a lot of competition, but just give me a nice song and I want to be on number one,” she said.
Mawhoo said she even posted on her Instagram to thank God for answering her prayer. “I wasn’t sure that He will listen to me but when it happened, I was so excited,” she said.
Now, with the success of Uzizwa Kanjan, Mawhoo is preparing to release another single titled Bengicela on 13 June. “I’m dropping my single on the 13th of June, Bengicela. It’s a prayer song. It’s very nice,” she revealed.
