The ever-popular reality show Uthando Nes’thembu is back tonight for its ninth season, giving viewers another inside look at the Mseleku household during one of its most vulnerable moments. Season 9 premieres at 8PM exclusively on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161), with new episodes airing twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The series continues to follow Musa Mseleku and his wives — MaCele, MaYeni, MaNgwabe, and MaKhumalo. This season also sees MaKhwela, known as Number 5, fully integrated into the family, creating new tensions and testing the household dynamics like never before.

The ninth season picks up after the explosive December special, #Uncut: Uthando Nes’thembu, which left the family at a crossroads. Fans watched as some of the wives openly discussed possibly leaving the marriage, while Musa battled serious health issues. The once lively home faced hard truths, difficult decisions, and the challenge of repairing deeply strained relationships.

“After eight seasons, we are now experiencing something completely different, brought on by the introduction of MaKhwela,” says Musa, who was nominated for Best Male TV Personality at last year’s National Film and Television Awards South Africa. Both Uthando Nes’thembu and its spinoff, Izingane Zes’thembu, were nominated for Best Non-Scripted TV Series. “The core idea of the family’s legacy is being put to the test, and viewers will have a front-row seat to everything.”

As the family opens up more than ever before, some things are shifting while others remain the same. The wives continue to face personal challenges, and the big question remains: will the Mselekus get on the same page again?

Over the years, Uthando Nes’thembu and its spinoffs have turned the Mseleku family into the “Kardashians of South Africa.” Season 8 drew an impressive 2.8 million viewers per episode and generated over one billion impressions on social media.

“Watching my family on television is a great and rare opportunity,” Musa shares. “Even more so, it makes me realise just how well-known our family is across South Africa and the rest of the continent.”

Even after eight seasons, Musa believes this season will continue to surprise and entertain. “It is important to keep telling the story because as we grow, the story grows, and it becomes more dynamic,” he says. “People should watch this season because it brings something new. For the first time, we see the reactions of all the people involved in the show. Nothing will be hidden from them as they get the opportunity to be part of the family and have the right to openly share their opinions.”

Season 9 promises drama, honesty, and a closer look at the Mseleku family than ever before — making it a must-watch for fans across South Africa.
