Tweeps React To Lawrence Maleka’s Exit From The River. It looks like award winning telenovela, The River is the latest to experience a shift in their cast. According to reports, two of the main cast members are exiting the show and a third will be taking a break.

Lawrence Maleka, who plays the iconic role of Zolani is said to have left the show. Whilst both the show and the actor have yet to release statements, Maleka’s exit came as a shock to some unsuspecting fans and not so much to some. This comes after his announcement on social media about a new gig on SABC1. Lawrence will host ‘Too Hot To Be Single’ and the new gig has been linked to his exit from The River by fans.

The reactions have been mixed. Some tweeps feel the show will never be the same and will negatively impact its ratings. “The River has lost a real one hear  … a real mood setter, they lost G,” one tweep wrote. Whilst another shared how it was a great move for the actor. “You did your part well done. I remember the words of @tallzo that says “real actors are the ones who grow within the industry by exploring different roles. Being consistent in the one show for years delay you from showing off your capacity and talent,” one tweep wrote.

Hlomla Dandala who plays the role of Zweli Dekana has reportedly also left the show. Lunathi Mampofu is reportedly taking a break from the show according to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela. She will reportedly be off the show temporarily while writers work on the new changes. Check out some reactions from fans of the show below.

Let’s all be honest #TheRiver1Magic is no longer the same. Storylines don’t make sense anymore, unfinished storylines, they neglect some crucial information about their storylines, they repeat storylines. Actually there’s no growth. Some of their actors can’t act. KUNINGI NJE!!!

At this rate it's safe to say this is the last season of the river. Lala and Zolani can not be replaced

— Vee Mose (@veemoose) October 17, 2022

He must've been fed up with the writing decline.

This thing of "telenova episodes airing" back to back everyday is killing the writing quality of many stories in SA. I don't understand why they aren't adopting the worldwide standard of limited episodes each year in a season.

Actually what’s killing telenovela’s is keeping the same writers for every season. New season, new writers then we’ll have fire productions
