Actress-turned-singer Shalate Sekhabi is stepping into an exciting new chapter, and this time, it’s all about music. The former House of Zwide star gave fans a sneak peek into her next move with a post on Instagram captioned, “Music on the way.” She confirmed that her debut EP, “Xa Ungekho”, which means “When You Are Not Here” — is set to drop on September 26, 2025, marking her official entry into the music scene.

Shalate has been a household name for the past five years thanks to her role as Shoki in the popular e.tv daily drama House of Zwide. Her portrayal of Shoki quickly made her a fan favourite and helped establish her as one of South Africa’s rising stars. Earlier this year, Shalate continued her acting journey by landing the role of Nthabi in Netflix’s young-adult series Go!, further proving her versatility as an entertainer.

In July 2025, Shalate officially said goodbye to House of Zwide, marking the end of a significant chapter in her life. Joining the show in 2021 when it first aired, she reflected on her time playing Shoki and the impact the character had on her career. “This is very bittersweet for me because I will miss playing Shoki. I played her for four years, and most of you know me as her,” Shalate shared on Instagram. “It’s because of this character that I’ve become a household name and got my start in this industry.”

She also expressed her gratitude to the production team and her fans, writing, “I want to thank Bomb Productions, e.tv, and all the fans for their incredible support over the years. This is truly the end of an era, but all chapters have to end at some point. I look forward to my future endeavours and sharing more work with all of you.”

Shalate’s announcement of her upcoming music project shows that she is ready to explore a new creative path while keeping her fans engaged and excited. With the debut EP dropping later this month, followers are eagerly anticipating what this multi-talented star will bring to the music scene. Whether on screen or through her songs, Shalate Sekhabi continues to prove that she is an entertainer to watch in 2025 and beyond.
