SA Celebrities Axed By Department Of Education! It seems like the out cries from the educators of South Africa have finally been heard as the celebrities who were hired to tutor on the Stem Digital online school have been given the boot.

The digital school had appointed Somizi, DJ Sbu, Pearl Modiadie, Mohale and many more to tutor school subjects to students via the digital platform for the remainder of the lockdown period which didn’t sit well with South Africa, resulting in the #CelebritiesAreNotTeachers making the rounds on social media.

The project is intended to help foundation phase pupils with their school work during lockdown will now be conducted by qualified professional teachers.

In a press statement the department announced that it has extended its Stem digital teaching and learning project. The department of education has now announced that the digital school has partnered with DSTV to broadcast on television.

In a press statement the Department of Basic Education said, ”The media partners (1KZN and Soweto TV) came on board at no cost to carry the digital schools on their channel. There are 54 qualified teachers assisting learners for free and the service will now be accessible on the television channels. There has been growth in demand from learners and parents who had appealed for assistance to access the support on alternative platforms.”

The announcement indirectly confirmed that celebrities who have been running the government’s digital teaching and learning platform have all stepped down from their positions.
