The Progressive Forces of South Africa (PFSA) has urged the Miss Universe organization to prevent Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, from competing in the international beauty pageant. This request was made on Wednesday, October 30, and according to IOL. The PFSA also launched a petition that has already gained over 600 signatures, supporting their call to bar Adetshina from the event.
The push for disqualification follows an announcement from South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs on October 29, revealing they’ve initiated the process to revoke the South African identity and travel documents of Adetshina and her family. The department completed an investigation after the family failed to respond to a deadline to justify retaining these documents.
In their statement, PFSA emphasised, “As Progressive Forces of South Africa, we are writing this letter on behalf of everyone who stands for justice to plead with you, Miss Universe as an organisation to reconsider the contestant, Miss Nigeria Universe and if possible, to cancel her entry.” They further highlighted the Miss Universe brand’s reputation for “class, integrity and fair competition,” expressing concern that Adetshina’s participation could harm the pageant’s image due to the accusations surrounding her mother.
