The SABC has officially announced that the township drama Pimville has been discontinued following unresolved contractual and operational matters involving the production company.

The popular drama previously aired Monday through Friday at 21:00 on SABC 2 and had built a growing fanbase since its debut earlier this year. However, on 25 May 2026, the broadcaster confirmed that the show would no longer continue in its current timeslot.

According to the SABC, repeat episodes of Season 2 of Amalanga Awafani will now air in the 21:00 slot previously occupied by Pimville.

In an official press release, the broadcaster explained the reason behind the sudden decision. “Following a thorough review process and careful consideration, the SABC regrets to announce that Pimville will be discontinued from tonight, due to unresolved contractual obligations and breaches identified and communicated formally to Bakwena Productions,” the statement read.

The broadcaster also acknowledged the contribution of everyone involved in making the drama a success. “This outcome is deeply regrettable, particularly considering the dedication and hard work demonstrated by the cast, crew, as well as the unwavering support received from audiences, partners, and all stakeholders who contributed to the programme’s success,” the SABC added.

The statement further explained, “As part of the Corporation’s contingency plans, the 21:00 timeslot previously occupied by Pimville will now be playing repeat episodes of the brand new Season 2 of the telenovela Amalanga Awafani. Further updates will be communicated regarding the future of Pimville.”

The township drama first premiered on Monday, 9 February 2026 on SABC 2 and featured a strong cast of well-known South African actors. Gail Mabalane was one of the leading stars, taking on the role of Pheello Mohapi. The cast also included Matli Mohapeloa as Mmusi Mohapi, Thapelo Mokoena as Kenneth Tumagole, Jesse Suntele as Mojalefa “MJ” Kobo, and Keke Mphuthi as Naledi Tumagole.
