South African singer and actress Nirvana Nokwe has set the record straight after a picture of her with Beyoncé went viral on social media. The photo, which showed the two women embracing and smiling, had fans convinced that Nirvana had shared a special moment with the Single Ladies hitmaker.

In the snap, Nirvana wore a flowing white gown while Beyoncé stunned in a sultry burgundy outfit, which she wore for her 44th birthday celebration. The picture quickly spread across Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), with many South Africans shocked that Nirvana had managed to take such a rare photo with Queen Bey, who is famously private when it comes to personal pictures.

Social media reactions were filled with envy and curiosity, with fans asking how the two stars had met. However, the excitement came to an end on Tuesday when Nirvana revealed the truth: the picture was fake.

Haibo guys, this is AI. I’m getting news article interview requests on how I met Beyoncé 😭🥺 pic.twitter.com/ODRNPDDFck

Taking to X, she wrote: “Haibo guys, this is AI. I’m getting news article interview requests on how I met Beyoncé.”

She later explained in the comments that the photo had been created by her niece, who shared it in their family WhatsApp group. Nirvana admitted that even she was fooled at first.

“When my niece sent this pic to me in the family group, I jumped! Then I remembered that wait, this has never happened!” she said.

The viral post even had local fashion and lifestyle brand Imprint South Africa ready to interview her. The brand commented: “Yazi nami (You know me too) I totally believed you. I almost WhatsApp(ed) you to find out more details.”

Nirvana playfully responded: “Yeyii wena when I tell you that EYE myself thought it was real. My niece made me jump, then kwabuya ingondo (my mind remembered) I’m like haibo, but this didn’t happen.”

Fans were stunned by just how realistic the AI-generated image looked. Some admitted they had no reason to doubt it.

@ChromeDaCesar said: “I think it’s because it wouldn’t be far-fetched if y’all really linked up.”

@_tryzonzama added: “Genuinely, thought it was real.”

While @mandyxxsishi confessed: “Lol, I was sold!”

The incident left many amazed at how advanced AI technology has become, proving just how easy it is to mistake digital creations for reality.
