South African singer, actress, and TV presenter Nandi Madida recently joined the L-Tido Podcast, where she spoke candidly about her journey through motherhood, her childhood, and her experiences in the entertainment industry. She also shared heartfelt insights about her relationship with husband, South African producer Zakes Bantwini.
“For me, the best thing that ever happened to me is meeting Zakes,” Nandi revealed.
She described the moment they first met at a SAMA nomination party, which happened to be her birthday. “I see Zakes and I’m like, hi, my name is Nandi, I’m an up and coming artist. I had just released a single, Good Times,” she said. “Zakes is like, I really love your music, and then he said, I love you.”
Nandi explained how intentional Zakes was from the very beginning. “Quick and simple. He was intentional, and he was like, one day I hope to marry you. This guy was not playing around. You can tell when someone is serious. We would just chat, and I liked the friendship. What I loved most was that he was intentional.”
She reflected on her upbringing and how it influenced her view of love. “Where I’m from, whether it was my father, my grandfather, everyone was very intentional in terms of patriarchy, like, I’m going to provide for you. Let me show you that you will be fine, and be soft and be in your feminine energy. I won’t lie, that guy, till this day, he still does that. That’s why I’m here, I’m glowing and I’m happy.”
Nandi also praised Zakes for keeping his promises. “What I like is that he didn’t break his promise. He was like, I’m going to take care of you, and that’s exactly what he’s done even now.”
The couple tied the knot in 2016 and have two children together: a son, Shaka Madida, and a daughter, Nefertiti Madida. Nandi’s story paints a picture of love, commitment, and partnership in both life and family.
