Media personality and inspirational speaker Lynn Forbes, now 57, has been reflecting on a powerful chapter in her life, when she turned 50 seven years ago. She shared throwback pictures on Instagram alongside a deeply personal caption about how that period marked a major shift in her confidence, identity, and outlook on ageing.
She wrote, “Don’t fear the big 50. Honestly? When I turned 50, almost 7 years ago, I was in the prime of my life. I had never looked better, felt better, or known myself better. I felt gorgeous. Confident. Free. Comfortable in my own skin. Less afraid of life. Less worried about what people thought of me.
“By 50, I had stopped trying so hard to become everything for everyone else and started settling more fully into myself. And there was something incredibly powerful about that.
“So many women are taught to fear aging, but for me, 50 felt like stepping into a version of myself that was stronger, softer, wiser, and more beautiful than ever before.”
Her reflections quickly drew warm responses from followers and public figures who praised her honesty and self-assurance. Reality TV star Jennifer Bala commented, “I always remember you like this. I think you were absolutely on your element, not that you aren’t anyway, and you totally embodied exactly what you describe in your caption..”
Another follower, @trudzuniverse, added, “Gorgeous sis. You are inspiration. May blessings always follow you.”
In a separate post, Forbes also opened up about her journey with solo travelling and the comfort she has found in spending time alone. She described how these quiet moments across different countries helped her reconnect with herself and find peace outside of external validation.
“Travelling solo, over the years … I found myself sitting at what people call ‘the solo table.’ Little cafés. Busy streets. Markets. Restaurants overlooking the ocean. Quiet dinners by myself.
“Even a solo lunch on a traditional long-tail boat in Thailand and a solo blue safari lunch on a sandbank in Zanzibar. And somewhere between all those meals, walks, and quiet moments, I realised something…
“There is something deeply peaceful about learning to enjoy your own company,” she wrote.
Her reflections highlight a recurring theme in her recent posts: embracing ageing, independence, and self-discovery as ongoing sources of strength rather than something to fear.
