South African house music duo Liquideep is celebrating a major career moment after collaborating with global pop star Tyla on a new version of their iconic hit song, “Fairytale”.
The legendary duo, made up of Ziyon and Ryzor, features on Tyla’s highly anticipated sophomore album, APOP, which is set to be released on 24 July 2026. For the collaboration, Tyla has reimagined Liquideep’s beloved classic, bringing a fresh interpretation of the track to her new project.
The exciting collaboration brings together one of South Africa’s most respected house music acts and one of the country’s biggest global stars. It also highlights the lasting impact of Liquideep’s music, with “Fairytale” continuing to resonate with audiences years after it was first released.
Originally released in 2009, “Fairytale” quickly became an instant house anthem and remains one of South Africa’s most cherished songs. Nearly two decades later, fans still know and sing along to the track, making Tyla’s decision to reimagine the song a special moment for the duo and their loyal supporters.
According to TRUE LOVE Magazine, Liquideep opened up about their excitement and happiness over collaborating with Tyla. For Ziyon, the opportunity was so unexpected that it initially felt difficult to believe.
“I didn’t believe it at first,” Ziyon admits. “It’s like a full circle moment, it’s a big honour and wake-up call to the platform that we have.”
The collaboration is not only a celebration of Liquideep’s musical legacy but also a reminder of the importance of using their platform to inspire and support others. Ziyon explained that the success of their music reaching Tyla is something they do not take for granted.
“We can’t take this for granted. If the music was able to reach her in this way, then it’s our duty to use this platform to do the same thing for other people, to continue to do what we’ve done, it just affirms that we’re going in the right way,” Ziyon explains.
The collaboration arrives during an exciting period for Liquideep, who will also be performing two intimate, sold-out live band shows at Untitled Basement in Johannesburg on 22 and 23 July.
As Tyla prepares to introduce her own take on “Fairytale” to an international audience, the collaboration serves as a powerful meeting of South African musical generations. Liquideep’s timeless house sound and Tyla’s global pop influence have come together to give the classic track a new chapter, while celebrating the song that helped cement the duo’s place in South African music history.
