Oscar Mbo and Celebrities Share How They Spent Mandela Day

South African producer and DJ Oscar Mbo joined many South African celebrities in giving back to their communities as the country celebrated Nelson Mandela Day on Saturday, 18 July 2026.

The annual day encourages people to dedicate 67 minutes of their time to making a difference in the lives of others. The 67 minutes represent the 67 years Nelson Mandela dedicated to public service and fighting for freedom and equality.

Oscar Mbo spent his 67 minutes giving back to children in Tembisa, Gauteng. The Oscar Mbo Foundation collaborated with PLK Savages Adventures and the Nelson Mandela Foundation for a special day at Leratong Edu-Care Centre.

The DJ shared pictures and special moments from the day, showing himself spending time with young children and bringing smiles to their faces. The initiative focused on supporting the centre and contributing towards a brighter future for the children.

Oscar Mbo was not the only celebrity who used Nelson Mandela Day as an opportunity to make a difference. TV personality Blue Mbombo also spent her 67 minutes giving back to children in need.

Blue Mbombo spent her Nelson Mandela Day in Pretoria with Metro FM. She visited the Tshwane Place of Safety Association, a registered, non-profit child-care organisation based in Queenswood, Pretoria.

The organisation provides temporary and loving family environments for abandoned, abused, orphaned and sick babies and toddlers.

Blue Mbombo opened up about why the initiative was important to her. In a shared video, she said, “The way that I look at children is very different and I wanted to do something that’s not just 67 minutes of Mandela but something that’s really meaningful and for this is the only thing I could do.”

The TV personality worked together with Signature Wall Coverings to help transform the children’s rooms. She focused on the girls’ rooms, explaining why the project was especially meaningful to her.

“I wanted to do the girls rooms because obviously I’m a girl mom. Changing the girls rooms for me was more impactful because you’re not just changing a room you’re giving them warmth and love.”

TV presenter and rapper Moozlie also visited the Tshwane Place of Safety and took part in the Mandela Day initiative. She shared moments from her day and expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped make the experience possible.

Moozlie wrote, “Spent the most beautiful day celebrating the spirit of Mandela Day at the Tshwane Place of Safety. A very special thanks to @metrofmsa, @gift.of.the.givers, @blue_mbombo & all the incredible partners that made this day possible for the amazing children being cared for in this home.”

Through their different initiatives, Oscar Mbo, Blue Mbombo and Moozlie showed how small acts of kindness can create meaningful moments for others. Their efforts also highlighted the spirit of Nelson Mandela Day, encouraging South Africans to use their time and resources to help those in need.
