K.O said it, if you want to make it in this industry you need to have a really tough skin.
Khanya Mkangisa has been in the industry for quite some time now and we must say, she’s had her fair share of the really good and even extra bad days.
The 27-year-old is currently acting on Isidingo and also hosts Selimathunzi but, before scoring those major gigs she had a bumpy road with her previous jobs.
In the 2016 January issue of Bona magazine the actress and TV personality opens up about her journey and her first tough experience in the industry when YoTV made her choose between acting and presenting for them.
Khanya shares that when she was in grade 11 she decided to take up acting outside of her YoTV presenter gig and it seemed to be a problem for the producers of the show.
“My first role was a cameo on Mthunzini.com. Eventually, it came to a point where YoTV made me choose between presenting and acting. YoTV stopped booking me, and as a child, I didn’t know what to make of that… It’s shocking that YoTV made me choose. I was not going to be a kiddies TV presenter forever, and they knew that, hence I chose acting.”
Going from one bad experience to another, Khanya soon realised that YoTV wouldn’t be the only dark side of the industry she would be exposed to.
Just three years ago the beaut unexpectedly got canned from her role of Mpilo on Mzansi Magic’s Zabalaza.
“I didn’t like how the show let me go. The season had come to an end and we were about to go on a break. I assumed I’d be back on the show, but I was given the ‘we don’t know what to write for you’ speech at the last minute. I hadn’t been told that my character had been written off,” she explains.
She then shares that she was shocked when journalists called about her exist claiming the she was fired for being a diva. “That hurt. It made me realise you can’t trust anyone in this industry. Once it’s done with you, it gets rid of you just like that.”
