Former Big Brother Mzansi housemate Karabo Mphirime, better known as Kay B, is proving that reality TV was just the beginning of her story. Now stepping into the music scene as a DJ, Kay B is ready to show Mzansi a different side of herself — one filled with rhythm, passion, and powerful beats.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Sun, the rising star shared how music has always been a part of her life — even during her time in the Big Brother house.

“It’s not really a shift, but something I’ve always wanted to showcase while I was in the Big Brother house,” she explained. “Unfortunately, my time there was short, so people didn’t get to see the musical side of me.”

Now out of the spotlight of reality TV and into the heart of the music world, Kay B is building her name in Afro-house, Afro-tech, and 3-step music — genres she feels deeply connected to. Inspired by top names like DJ Kent, Simi, Prince KB, and Caiiro, she’s putting her unique spin on the sounds that shaped her.

“Afro-house, Afro-tech, and 3-step music have always been my vibe. That sound lives in me. I just want people to feel that in my sets,” she said.

While stepping into DJing may look glamorous from the outside, Kay B admitted that the process came with unexpected lessons. She discovered that DJing isn’t just about hitting play and dancing.

“I thought you just step up, spin the decks, and vibe,” she laughed.

“But there’s real skill involved. It’s about technique, understanding your sound, and finding your own unique style. It’s more than just playing songs — it’s storytelling through music.”

So, what can fans expect from her performances? “My sound is authentic, dreamlike, and flowy. It’s meant to take you on a journey like you’re lost in your own dream world, visualising your highest self,” she described.

“I haven’t seen many young women my age pushing Afro-house or Afro-tech, so I want to bring something fresh and real.”

With her energy, vision, and love for music, Kay B is carving her own lane — and inviting South Africa along for the ride.
