Award-winning content creator Grace Mondlana has opened up about what happened to her puppy, Bella, revealing that she was unaware of just how seriously ill the puppy had become.
Grace Mondlana answered questions about Bella on her Instagram Story, explaining that she initially believed her puppy was simply going through the normal puppy phase.
“I can’t ignore this question for good. This is what happened. Bella is gone. At first, I really thought that it is the puppy phase, as I did experience the same thing with Kai when he was still four months old. But with Bella, it was a little bit strange because the things that were happening took a little bit longer than they were supposed to. The pooping and vomiting happened constantly from, I think, a week after I got her, which was very concerning. So I took her to the vet, and I spent a lot of money because that particular vet kept on saying the same thing and giving me the same medicine.”
Grace said that by the third week, she began considering giving Bella away because she was struggling to care for her while dealing with her own injury.
“So in the third week, I thought to myself, I have to give Bella away. I’m not coping with her around and my injury. It took me another week to do that because I did not want to let go of her yet. I thought I would keep trying, but we both just kept on getting worse.”
She explained that the situation also took an emotional toll on her, as she became increasingly frustrated with herself over being unable to move around quickly enough to clean up after Bella.
“I kept on getting angrier at myself for being unable to move around and turn around whatever that she would make in the house quickly. And that worked with madness.”
Eventually, Grace took Bella to the SPCA, believing that they would be able to find her a new family. However, what she was told there left her devastated.
“So finally, about two weeks ago, three minutes before the closet, I took her to the SPCA. You know what they said to me, Ma’am? This has gotten to a point where it is considered animal cruelty because she is internally bleeding, and keeping her alive is just hurting her more. I was not aware of any of that. I took my puppy there just so she could get a new family. I don’t want to give her away to people that I don’t know.”
Grace said the SPCA staff informed her that Bella had to be put down because of the severity of her condition.
“We have to put her down. Like right now, in front of you. It needs to happen right now. So instantly, they put Bella down and that was the end of her.”
The content creator said she chose not to immediately share the heartbreaking news because she needed time to mourn Bella in peace. She is now once again left with Kai.
Grace first introduced Bella to her followers when she celebrated Kai’s first birthday. She had explained that she decided to get Bella because she worried Kai would become bored and lonely whenever she was away from home for several hours.
She felt that he needed a sister to keep him company. Bella was three months old when Grace brought her home.
