Gogo Skhotheni, known for her spiritual influence as a sangoma, is taking her career to a new level by launching Club Cavo in collaboration with two business partners. Situated in the trendy Maboneng precinct, the club aims to offer a unique blend of spirituality and entertainment, drawing from Gogo Skhotheni’s cultural and personal journey.
In an interview with TshisaLIVE, Gogo Skhotheni shared her vision for the club: “I ventured into clubbing because I figured out what I could do that would resonate with me being a DJ and bring people together. As a sangoma, I go around and pray for people. I’ve got a nduma where people can meet me, so this was a way of bringing people closer to my career where they will see me often,” she explained.
Gogo Skhotheni’s deep connection with her followers, who support her for every aspect of her life, is central to her business. “People who follow me do so for everything I do. I could become a pastor now and people would follow me. I understood my circle and use it wisely by accommodating all of them,” she added.
Choosing Maboneng for the club’s location was no accident. Gogo Skhotheni sees it as a vibrant, energetic area that aligns with the club’s inclusive, spiritual atmosphere. “I chose Maboneng because it’s a place where people like to vibe, and as uGogo wama2k, they are there. It means this is not my club but a club for everyone. My club is going to be a different club that stands out because it is covered by my ancestors. There’s no special sections, we are all the same there.”
Despite the challenges of launching a new venture, Gogo Skhotheni is no stranger to hard work and perseverance. “I make time. I sleep an hour or two. I make sure I have a vision board and I put it into existence,” she said, revealing the behind-the-scenes hustle of her entrepreneurial journey.
Her path hasn’t been without hardship, notably the loss of her son, which has deeply shaped her perspective. “After I lost my son, my faith became stronger. I understood God more. I didn’t question him, stop loving him. My 2024 has been the worst year but it had blessings as well. I couldn’t see the blessings because of what happened to me, but I’m sure where my son is, he is smiling down on me,” she shared with a sense of resilience.
While Gogo Skhotheni has faced public scrutiny throughout her career, it hasn’t deterred her. “I will never be criticised by someone who is higher than me; it’s usually people who want to be me or need to learn from me,” she said, reflecting her unwavering confidence.
Looking ahead, Gogo Skhotheni is optimistic about Club Cavo’s future and is already planning for expansion. “I want to see how the club will do, but I am thinking of having another franchise at a different place. I am launching other things, but it will be clubs. I just want to see how this one works out,” she added.
