South African actress and TV host Candice Modiselle, now known as Candice Sello after recently getting married, shared a heartfelt tribute to the late legendary actress Nandi Nyembe, who passed away at the age of 75.

Nandi Nyembe, a beloved figure in South African television, died on August 23, 2025. She was celebrated for her powerful performances in classic shows such as Zone 14, Yizo Yizo, Soul City, and Isibaya. In recent years, the award-winning actress had been in a wheelchair due to her declining health.

Candice shared a touching video on social media showing a joyful moment between herself and Mam’ Nandi from almost a decade ago. In the video, the two are dancing and singing together. Alongside the video, Candice wrote a moving message that left many emotional.

“My words are few. @rbkgosimore sent me this the other day from almost 10 years ago, and to say I’m gutted is an understatement,” she shared. “Rest now Ma. The credits have rolled, the curtains have closed. We love, honour and cherish you always.”

The sad news of Nyembe’s passing was confirmed in a joint statement from her family and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. Minister Gayton McKenzie joined the Nyembe family in announcing the loss of one of the country’s most respected artists.

“It is with profound sorrow that the Nyembe family, together with the national Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, announce the passing of one of South Africa’s most treasured icons of the arts, Mam’ Nandi Nyembe,” the statement read.

Nyembe’s memorial service will be held at the Market Theatre in Newtown, Johannesburg, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Her funeral will follow on Saturday, August 30, with the exact venue yet to be confirmed.

Fans, fellow actors, and industry leaders have flooded social media with tributes, honouring her legacy and remembering her unforgettable roles. Her impact on the industry will not be forgotten.
