“This is insane! From Maftown to the world. God is the greatest!”

On Instagram, Boikanyo opened up even more about what the moment means to her, reflecting on a journey that began when she discovered poetry at just six years old and has since taken her to presidential stages and beyond.

“Storyteller. Dreamer. Livewire
Besties, your girl is on the cover of a magazine!!!
What an affirming and surreal moment to see the culmination of a dream
In the feature, I speak about the journey from discovering poetry at six years old, to performing on presidential stages, and now serving as a @unfpaesaro Regional ICPD Youth Champion for East and Southern Africa
This moment is not mine alone, but for every Black girl who has ever dared to dream. The article reminds us:
“Your voice matters.”
I hope my story is a testament to the power of dreaming, owning your voice and your gifts, but even more so testament of a God who does exceedingly and abundantly
Thank you, @get_it_joburg_north, for trusting me with your September cover and for telling this chapter of my story so beautifully. And to everyone who has journeyed with me, this moment belongs to you too. Forever humbled.”

The magazine feature comes at another significant point in Boikanyo’s journey. After recently graduating with Film and Television with Honours at Wits University, she continues to build a career that brings together her love for acting, writing, storytelling and production.

Speaking about the different creative disciplines she has embraced, she explained: “I don’t want to be a single success story, and I don’t need to be. Acting helps me get into the shoes of other people, which helps me understand them – and that makes me a better writer. Meanwhile, studying production helps me make better choices as a performer.”

Beyond the stage, screen and page, Boikanyo is also using her journey to create opportunities for others. Through her foundation, she is focused on empowering young people from under-resourced communities to discover the confidence to express themselves and find their own voices. For her, the work is deeply personal, rooted in an understanding of what she needed as a young girl pursuing her own dreams.

“Giving back has always been part of my life, and when I wanted to do this in a more formal way, I didn’t have to go far to look for a cause. I just thought about what young Botlhale would have needed. It’s my hearts work.”
