Popular South African choreographer Bontle Modiselle recently opened up about marriage, money and partnership. The talented dancer and media personality shared that she would not mind being a breadwinner in her relationship with her husband, South African rapper Priddy Ugly.

Bontle made it clear that she understands that life comes in different seasons, especially in a marriage where both partners are ambitious and career-driven.

“I understand there are seasons in people’s lives,” Modiselle explained during the interview. “There are moments when he (Priddy Ugly) will be up, and I may not be. There are moments I will be up, and he may not be. It does not change how I feel about him because at my core, I respect this man.”

Her words reflect a deep sense of respect and maturity in their relationship. For Bontle, success is not about competition but about supporting each other through every phase of life.

She emphasised that financial contributions are only one part of a relationship and should never define it. “If money is the only thing a man has to offer, that is unfortunate. There has to be more than that,” she said. Modiselle warned that prioritising money over character can cause serious issues. “If your partner is flawed in logic, morals, or values, but he is up with money, it will show in unfortunate ways. It will show in absent fathers and in marriages that do not last.”

While on the “L-Tido Podcast”, Modiselle-Moloi touched on the topic of being a provider in her relationship, sharing that “I was never a girl who was interested in a guy that had the money.”

She further labelled it as “unfortunate” if money is the only thing that a guy has to offer in a relationship. She said, “To me a man who made money his entire personality sucked.”

Modiselle also reflected on her personal approach to partnerships. She revealed that she had never expected men in her life to provide for her financially. “I never had expectations of being looked after. I never expected him to pay for my nails or hair. In fact, that made me uncomfortable,” she admitted.

The choreographer credited her mother as her biggest inspiration when it comes to resilience and making the most of what you have. “My mother is a point of reference of how to make life work. In fact, how to maximise the best of what you got in a situation that gives you very little.

“I saw my mother make the most out of nothing,” she explained.
