Fans of Big Brother Mzansi season five finalist Uyanda Nhlangabezo, affectionately known as the “Honeybadgers,” have rallied together to raise more than R150,000 to support him after his impressive run on the reality show.
Uyanda, a 24-year-old pedagogical teacher from Gqeberha, finished as the season’s runner-up with 31.67% of the votes, coming second to Sweet Guluva, who secured 53.48% and walked away with the R2 million grand prize. Despite missing out on the top spot, Uyanda’s fans have made it their mission to ensure he still wins in a big way.
Through the efforts of social media influencer Mandisi Tshingana, donations for Uyanda have already surpassed R150,000, with a long-term goal of reaching R2 million. Tshingana emphasised that every contribution is meant to support Uyanda’s future beyond the show.
“Every cent donated will go directly to Uyanda to support his journey post-show,” Tshingana told TshisaLIVE. “Your generosity fuels Uyanda’s future endeavors. Let’s keep uplifting our favorite housemate.”
Uyanda’s journey on Big Brother Mzansi was one of resilience and determination. He captured the hearts of many viewers with his authenticity and strong-willed nature, making him a fan favourite throughout the season.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Uyanda expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support and revealed that he plans to use the funds to start a charity aimed at helping underprivileged black children access opportunities.
“This is something I appreciate so much. I was beating myself up, but being a runner-up is a win on its own, and I don’t take it for granted,” Uyanda said.
“I want to start a charity to expose black children to the world. What I have been doing for the past few years is taking a couple of students who don’t have access to the internet and applying for opportunities for them. I am passionate about anything to do with education.”
Uyanda remains grateful for the love and support he has received from his fans. In a heartfelt message, he said:
“I’m super grateful. Thank you for the love and support and for voting for me to reach this far in the competition. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be here; I appreciate it.”
With the Honeybadgers showing no signs of stopping their donations, Uyanda’s journey beyond Big Brother Mzansi is just beginning.
