South African television presenter, radio personality, and businesswoman Anele Mdoda is making waves on the global stage with her latest venture into film production. Her movie, Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight, which she executive produced under her Rose & Oaks Media production company, will be featured at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada.
Adapted from the best-selling memoir of the same name, the film officially premiered in the US on August 30th, 2024. Directed by Embeth Davidtz, the movie stars 8-year-old newcomer Lexi Venter as the lead character, Bobo, alongside an impressive cast that includes Zikhona Bali, Fumani N. Shilubana, Rob van Vuuren, and Anina Reed.
The film’s inclusion at TIFF is a significant milestone for Mdoda, whose fans have praised her growing influence in the media industry. One fan took to social media, commenting on X (formerly Twitter), “Well, it’s safe to say Anele is quietly on the way to being a media mogul.” Another added, “But @Anele is a force. Love her. May she continue to do great things.”
TIFF runs from September 5th to 15th, 2024, with the official screening of Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight set for September 12th.
