Ama Qamata Shares Her Favorite African Proverb! Actress Ama Qamata is a gone girl and we love that for her and for South Africa.
The 22 year old actress who rose to the top as the one of the leading stars of Netflix hit series Blood & Water and her former role on Gomora Mzansi is going international after bagging her first international nod from the Series Brasil Awards (#SBAwards) in the category Atriz Revelação Do Ano (Actress Revelation of the Year). Not to mention she’s been dubbed SA’s new ‘IT’ girl.
Ama rise has the whole continent wanting a piece of her and recently she was featured on Apple Music’s Africa Now Radio With Cuppy where she shared her favorite African proverb.
“Well, a proverb that I know that I grew up with, my mom always used to say is, [Proverb in Xhosa], which basically means like… Well, that’s in Xhosa. I’m not saying it properly. Mom says it better. But in translation it’s, ‘A child that does not cry, dies in the womb.’ And in English, what it means is, ‘Closed mouths don’t get fed‘”, she said.
“So if you’re not speaking out, if you’re not saying what you want, no one’s really going to know that you have a problem. And I think it’s so important with these tough times that we’re around, if you need help, if there’s anything that is bothering you, we should speak out about it,” the beauty added.
