Miss South Africa 2020, Shudufhadzo Musida, is proving once again that she is the perfect example of beauty and brains. The inspiring former beauty queen, who is currently studying in the United States, recently reached an exciting milestone in her academic journey.

Shudufhadzo is studying for a Master’s Degree in International Affairs at Columbia University in New York. Her studies focus on political and economic development, which reflects her deep passion for global issues and leadership. Before this, she earned a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Pretoria and a BA Honours degree in International Relations from Wits University.

On Thursday, 15 May 2025, Shudu took to her Instagram page to celebrate completing her first year of studies at the prestigious university. She shared a heartfelt video showing special moments from her time on campus and simply captioned it: “By God’s grace.”

Her time at Columbia has also given her many opportunities to take part in global discussions and events. In April 2025, she proudly announced her role as the host of an important event held at the United Nations. She shared:

“I had the distinct honor of hosting Drum Dialogue: Beats of Solidarity — an event dedicated to commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Ark of Return, a permanent memorial at the United Nations honoring the victims of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade. This gathering also marked the commencement of the Second International Decade for People of African Descent, reinforcing a global commitment to recognition, justice, and development for communities of African heritage.”

Later that same month, Shudufhadzo shared another powerful moment from her journey — this time as a moderator at a high-level event at the UN Headquarters. She wrote:

“I am reminded that behind every policy, headline, and crisis response, there are people — women and girls whose lives hang in the balance. Whose dignity, safety, and humanity must be protected. Whose mental and physical health must be a priority, not an afterthought. Moderating today’s high-level UN event on Prioritizing SRHR and SGBV in Crisis Response at United Nations HQ was an honour.”

She continued, “We spoke about the power of collective action, the strength of local leadership, and why dignity must never be optional. These aren’t distant issues. They are human rights. And they demand our full attention.”

Shudufhadzo Musida’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. From Miss South Africa to a global student leader, she is using her platform to uplift others and bring attention to issues that matter.
