Pearl Modiadie Reveals Her Former Metro FM Manager Sexually Harassed Her On Multiple Occasions. Pearl Modiadie recently hung her headphones at Metro FM after the station made a complete switch up of their line up. Although she described her time there and fruitful life changing, it appears that she endured some heavy sexual harassment at the hands of her station manager.
Sunday World has reported that during Modiadie’s time as a co-host for the The Midday Show With Thomas And Pearl, sources revealed that Pearl was allegedly experiencing sexual harassment at the station who shared receipts of e-mail exchanges between her and the station’s marketing team.
In an e-mail to event organisers who had booked Modiadie for an appearance, a representative from Metro FM’s marketing team asked when they need the radio host and for how long. Pearls manager responded to the email inappropriately, by implying sexual connotations.
“Yho since we are there, can I also get asked that question. When do you need Pearl and for how long … you are Pimpsta of the year. Sorry guys but that was really funny” wrote the staff member.
An infuriated Pearl responded to the email, sharing how unapproved the response was.
“I don’t find the response funny at all. This is highly inappropriate. “ I’m asking about a job that I’ve been booked for by the station and you are taking it in a completely different direction. This is not the first time you’ve made such comments where I’m concerned and I will not take it anymore” said Modiadie.
The manager responded to Pearl’s complaint, claiming that it wouldn’t happen again. Pearl has now confirmed that all the above did in-fact occur and on multiple occasions. The manage has made inappropriate comments about Pearls “sexy body’. Pearl added that uncomfortable sexual innuendos have been thrown around during conversations, even in the presence of her now former colleagues.
During an outside broadcast at a cricket stadium, Pearl shares that she was wearing a tight jumpsuit and while taking pictures, he asked that she look the other way instead so that her “booty” would be in the picture.
“There was also an incident where I had posted a bikini picture on Instagram and he inappropriately brought up a conversation about that picture and how ‘hot I looked'”.
“The last sexual remark he made was in an e-mail that other staff members were copied on. I responded that it made me feel uncomfortable and that I was tired of the sexual harassment I was subjected to. This e-mail was sent during my radio show and only one of the guys copied stood up for me.
“He then apologised on e-mail and came down to the studio to apologise in person. I was visibly upset and in tears! Even the celebrity guest who was present for his studio interview saw all of this. I felt violated and couldn’t even show up for work the next day” she said.
The mother of one shares that she copied the then station manager in the e-mail but there was never a response from her. SABC’s management said the matter was not brought to their attention. Since the story came to light, Pearl took to twitter to share that she had kept quiet about the offence until the media became aware of the scandal. This in turn gave Pearl the courage to finally speak up about the incidents.
“I kept quiet for too long until media picked it up and never have I been grateful for that because it finally gave me the courage to speak out about the sexual harassment I was was subjected to at Metro FM” Pearl wrote.
