South African actress Simphiwe Ngema and her partner, Tino Chinyani, left viewers surprised after being unmasked as the celebrity couple hiding inside the Sheep costume on The Masked Singer South Africa Season 3.
The couple appeared on the semifinal episode of the popular singing competition on Saturday, 19 September 2026, where their identities were finally revealed.
Following their unmasking, the couple spoke about their experience on the show and what it was like becoming the first duo to compete together.
On The Masked Singer official platform, the couple was asked how they felt about being the first duo on the show. Tino Chinyani shared how special the experience was, especially because he got to share it with his partner.
“It feels absolutely incredible, like how can you even ask me something like that and the fact that I got to do it with the person that I love most, that’s my trophy and I’m more than happy with where we came.”
Simphiwe also opened up about what surprised her the most during their time on the show. While the couple successfully managed to keep their identities hidden from the detectives and viewers for some time, the actress admitted that she expected the panel to figure them out.
“Honestly I thought that the judges were going to know who we are.”
The couple also spoke about their reaction when they were first approached to take part in the singing competition. For Tino, the idea of performing while wearing a costume was one of the biggest challenges.
“That was anxious. It was very anxious because I was like The Masked Singer, like do we actually have to sing and dance in a mask? That for me was the scariest part because I was like we’re going to suffocate. I told her if you want to us pass out on stage this is the time.”
Meanwhile, Amapiano singer Zee Nxumalo appeared as the guest detective on The Masked Singer South Africa, coming in as Jerry Maake.
The permanent detective panel consists of J’Something, Somizi Mhlongo, Sithelo Shozi, and Skhumba Hlophe.
The Masked Singer South Africa airs new episodes every Saturday at 19:00 on SABC 2 and streams on SABC+.
