Actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, reminding many of the legacy and strength of the anti-apartheid icon.
Taking to Instagram, the actress shared a moving message reflecting on Winnie Mandela’s life and impact. She wrote, “we never said thank you. To being perfectly imperfect. To conquering pain. To fighting a good fight. To Woman. I could go on but you get it.”
Her tribute comes as the seven-part Netflix documentary series, The Trials of Winnie Mandela, continues to gain attention following its release on Thursday, 23 April 2026. The series, directed by Mandy Jacobson, features never-before-seen footage and dives deep into the life of the struggle icon through personal accounts and interviews.
Directed by the late two-time Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Mandy Jacobson, the series is told through the eyes of Madikizela-Mandela’s granddaughters, HRH Princess Zaziwe Manaway (née Dlamini) and HRH Princess Swati Mandela-Dlamini, who also serves as a producer on the project.
Social media users and celebrities alike have echoed Enhle’s sentiments, praising both her tribute and the documentary’s powerful storytelling. On X, formerly known as Twitter, viewers shared their reactions, applauding how the series captures Winnie Mandela’s resilience and complexity.
@ladytopaz commented, “I’m watching the #WinnieMandela documentary on Netflix and wow man. This country owes that woman a lot. Every documentary that features her shocks me. What a force!!!”
@marcia_breeze also shared, “Mama Winnie understood who she was and why she became who she was. It’s quite refreshing watching how self aware she was and that’s why the evil apartheid government failed to break her. She didn’t deserve such brutality nonetheless #TheTrialsOfWinnieMandela.”
The documentary continues to spark important conversations, with many viewers reflecting on Winnie Mandela’s enduring legacy and the role she played in South Africa’s history.
