Rapper Emtee has spoken out after private Instagram conversations between himself and former Big Brother Mzansi contestant Mshini Lekwadu went viral on Monday, clearing the air about rumours of infidelity and apologising to Mshini for the public leak.

The leaked screenshots, which appeared on Emtee’s own Instagram stories, are suspected to have been shared by his wife, Nicole Chinsamy. The chats showed Emtee greeting Mshini, asking where she lives, and later enquiring when he could visit.

In a statement on Tuesday morning, Emtee explained that he doesn’t personally know Mshini. “I don’t know Mshini personally. Like most people I watched her on Big Brother and witnessed how she supports my craft,” he wrote.

Mshini, a public figure and content creator, also released a statement to explain the context of their interaction.

“Over time, we had brief interactions via DM, and in his last message he asked when he could visit and where I stayed. I responded with my address under the impression that our conversation was strictly business-related and in line with my support for his music,” she said.

In her message, she mentioned that she told the Roll-Up hitmaker he could visit that Friday.

Emtee admitted that while he is not perfect, his intentions with Mshini were purely professional and rooted in gratitude.

“I know I’m not perfect. Very far from it but I have heart and empathy. My intention was to meet her personally and thank her,” he explained. “She has been nothing but kind to me and I appreciate that. I’m married so I had no other intention but to say thank you and figure out a way we could work together since she’s a public figure, a hard worker and a good person in general from what I see.”

The rapper also issued a direct apology to Mshini, her team, and her loved ones.

“I would like to extend an apology to Mshini, her team and loved ones. I would never intentionally expose our conversations and put her safety at risk as I prioritise safety as well. I DID NOT POST THE CONVERSATIONS.”
