Reality TV star Tirelo Kale has finally shared why she hasn’t married Mpumelelo Mseleku, the son of well-known polygamist Musa Mseleku.

Tirelo, who is Mpumelelo’s first girlfriend and the mother of his son, spoke openly during a recent Instagram Live. Her comments came after social media users questioned her relationship status, especially after Mpumelelo paid lobola (bride price) for his second partner.

Speaking honestly, Tirelo revealed that her family stopped her from getting married because they wanted her to focus on her future first.

“There was a letter sent to my family but they refused; the letter is still there. I pleaded with my family, I even rolled on the floor,” she said.

She explained that her parents didn’t want her to get married while she was still in school and unemployed.

“My family said because I’m not done with school and I’m not working, if I get married? What are you leaving with? That’s why they declined the proposal and my mother said she would observe us. I was hurt when my family refused,” Tirelo said.

Although some people on social media have been mocking her and calling her a “side chick,” Tirelo made it clear she doesn’t feel that way. “I’m not a side chick. There’s no VIP in relationships,” she said confidently.

Mpumelelo Mseleku is currently appearing on Izingane Zes’thembu, a reality show on Mzansi Magic, where he shares his journey in building a polygamous family, just like his father.

In a past interview with TshisaLIVE, Mpumelelo explained that polygamy is not something he’s taking lightly. He said he was raised in it and wants to grow into the lifestyle while he’s still young.

“I got an opportunity to showcase what I do. How to structure polygamy and make people understand you don’t start polygamy when you are old. You have to start it now and grow with it to understand the dynamics. It’s not forced. It’s something I was raised in. People are failing to understand that,” Mpumelelo explained.

He also said his father taught him to be honest, humble, respectful, and to always know when to apologise. “What I learnt from my father is to be truthful, humble and respectful and know how to apologise,” he said.
