The sudden passing of beloved South African actor Presley Chweneyagae has left the country in shock. The actor, best known for his role in Tsotsi and The River, died on Tuesday morning at the age of 40.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, family spokesperson Mzwakhe Sigudla said the family is still trying to come to terms with his unexpected death. According to The South African, Mzwakhe explained that the family does not want to speculate about the cause of death until all procedures are complete.

“We spent time with him yesterday (Monday), and there were no signs that something like this could happen,” Mzwakhe told reporter Nqobile Madlala. “However, we don’t want to speculate, we want to allow all the necessary procedures and protocols to take their course.”

He described Presley as a healthy and energetic person who had not shown any signs of illness. “It’s safe to say he never struggled; he had always been a healthy person and was doing well. We were with him on Monday, so this is quite shocking,” he added.

On Wednesday, the family confirmed that Presley had breathing problems before his death. Paramedics were called to his home and tried their best to save him, but he sadly passed away.

“We want to put the record straight that it was a natural death as far as we are concerned,” said Mzwakhe. “He had a complication in relation to breathing. Paramedics were called at home, and he was attended to. We appreciate the professional nature of the paramedics.”

The family has asked for privacy as they deal with this heartbreaking loss. They are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from fans and colleagues.

As the family waits for final medical reports, South Africans continue to mourn the loss of one of the country’s most talented and respected stars.
