South African actor S’dumo Mtshali has received a nomination for Best Actor in a TV Series at the 4th annual National Film & TV Awards (NFTA) South Africa, recognising his performance in the drama series The Polygamist.
Mtshali earned the nomination for his portrayal of Jonasi Gomora, a wealthy banking executive whose seemingly successful life is complicated by infidelity and secret relationships. Jonasi is married to Joyce Gomora, played by Gugu Gumede, but his actions create tension and emotional turmoil within his family.
The Polygamist premiered on Netflix on 12 June 2026. Released globally as a 22-episode supernovela, the South African drama is adapted from the 2012 novel of the same name by Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi.
Through its characters and their complicated relationships, the drama explores themes of marriage, betrayal and the consequences of personal choices.
Mtshali is not the only member of the production to receive recognition at the upcoming awards. The Polygamist has also been nominated for Best Scripted TV Series, highlighting the show’s presence across multiple categories.
Gugu Gumede, S’thandiwe Kgoroge and Kwanele Mthethwa have also received nominations for Best Actress in a TV Series for their respective performances in the drama. The nominations mean several cast members will be represented at the ceremony, alongside the series itself.
The 4th annual National Film & TV Awards South Africa will take place on 19 November 2026 at the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace. The event features 28 award categories spanning film, television and digital entertainment.
The awards celebrate talent and achievements across the South African entertainment industry, bringing together performers and productions competing for recognition in their respective fields.
With Mtshali nominated for his portrayal of Jonasi and several of his co-stars also in contention, The Polygamist will be one of the productions to watch when the winners are announced at this year’s ceremony.
