Amapiano stars Boohle, Thee Buhle, and Bontle Smith are stepping into the spotlight in a major way. The talented vocalists have been cast for a new reality TV show titled Inside Life: City Girls Are Up, which will premiere on MTV on 22 February. This new series offers an exclusive look into the lives of these rising stars as they navigate the highs and lows of the music industry.
The show follows in the footsteps of previous Inside Life seasons, including the 2021 editions featuring Major League DJz and Nigerian actress Nlewedim. Now, it’s Boohle (25), Thee Buhle (24), and Bontle Smith (35) who will open up about their personal and professional journeys as amapiano artists, showcasing how they juggle their music careers and daily lives.
In an interview with Daily Sun, Boohle shared her excitement about the project. “I wanted to just show a little insight into our lives as ladies in the music business. What has been exciting for me is that people will get to know me and understand what goes behind shooting a reality show,” she explained. Boohle also hopes the show will challenge the narrative of competition among women in the industry, saying, “We’re trying to show that girls in the industry aren’t against each other. We work together as a team.”
As one of amapiano’s breakout stars, Boohle also shared her thoughts on how the show can shift perceptions. “I’d like viewers to learn and understand our ideas and what we go through in our everyday lives. It’s really important that we fight this narrative about a ‘competition’ among ladies. We wanted to come together to make something beautiful, and I feel this show will showcase just that.”
For aspiring artists, Boohle offered some solid advice: “They must know themselves and learn to be themselves. Don’t fake for anyone, and they mustn’t be ashamed of themselves, their values, and where they come from.”
According to Bona Magazine, Monde Twala, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Paramount Africa, expressed the network’s commitment to empowering African voices. “At MTV, we are committed to elevating African voices and stories, especially those of young women who are spearheading pop culture. Inside Life: City Girls Are Up celebrates the power of women in music, offering a front-row seat to the journeys of three incredible talents who are shaping the future of entertainment in Africa.”
