Local television and radio personality Zanele Potelwa has an exciting new gig on her hands. As part of 5FM’s radio reshuffle, the presenter will be saying goodbye to the station’s weekday breakfast show ‘The Roger Goode Show’, which she was part of alongside Roger Goode, Sureshnie Rider and Robbie Kruse, as the station confirms that Zanele will be stepping into her own as the host of the coveted 12pm to 3pm daytime slot.
‘5 Lunch With Zanele’ kicks off on 5FM from Thursday, 1 April 2020 and is a major milestone in Zanele’s radio career. Joining Zanele is Yanga Mjoli who will be a contributor on the show as well as keep listeners up to date with the latest news.
“I am so excited for this brand-new adventure and I can’t wait to for South Africa to join me for lunch all around the country every weekday,” an excited Zanele says.
The presenter adds that having her own show on the station that she grew up listening to is a dream come true. “Lunch on 5FM has always been a good time and this new show will be an entire vibe (with my own twist to it, of course). Radio is a medium that I love and respect so much and I plan to give this new baby my all. The show is all about the real VIPs – our listeners. ‘5 Lunch With Zanele’ promises to be fun, informative and of course – delicious!”
Zanele has had an exciting run on the youth station so far. She started off as an intern as part of 5FM’s five-day mentorship where she made an impression on the management team at the station. Over the next two years, 5FM invited Zanele to help out where possible where she continued to get extensive experience of what it is like working at a radio station. After a short time away, she made her return as host of the 1am – 4am weekday slot before becoming part of the weekday breakfast team. She also hosted her own four-hour show every Sunday at 11am.
“To think that my journey started out as a mentee working guest list and making coffee and that now I get to make sure that lunch is anything but boring is insane,” Zanele admits. “I’m beyond grateful to have been trusted by our management as a young black women and here’s to more women taking up space in radio. I truly look forward to the epic future that lies ahead. I can’t wait!”
As Zanele settles into her exciting new role, fans can also find the star on their television screen as a presenter on SABC 1’s popular lifestyle magazine show ‘Selimathunzi’.
