Watch! Lalela Mswane Opens Up About Her Miss Universe Journey Following Death Threats Received From The Public. The Miss Universe pageant recently took place in Israel and the new winner has been crowned. Our Miss South Africa winner Lalela Mswane did us very proud despite the backlash of participating in the apartheid ridden country and was crowned 2nd princess.

Mswane has since returned to Mzansi and it seems like she was given a warm welcome back home on her arrival. A press conference has been held for Lalela to honour the milestone where she opened up about the journey leading up to this point. After losing the support of the country and the government, Lalela shares that she questioned herself about going to the pageant.

The teary Lalela added that her participation in the Miss Universe pageant no longer became about what she wanted but rather the safety of her family. Mswane revealed that she was unable to sleep at night due to death threats she was receiving. Lalela shares that she felt unprepared because of this and making top three makes it all the more special for her.

“Being third is the biggest win for me and I am extremely proud of myself” she said.

Lalela took to Instagram to honour the lesson she has learned from all of this which is that sometimes obstacles that were meant to tear you down, end up strengthening you in ways you never could’ve imagined. She also thanked Mzansi for all the support.

“I decided to choose faith over fear and follow what felt right and good to my soul and I am filled with so much appreciation and gratitude for all the love and comfort I received in support of my pursuing something extremely important to me. Ngiyabonga South Africa” she wrote.

The Ballet dancer also congratulated the new Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu from India and all the other people who made this journey so special. Miss Universe 2021 was the 70th Miss Universe pageant, held on December 12 at Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel.

Congratulations Lalela!!!
