Uzalo’s Noxolo Mathula On How She Survived Not Working During The Pandemic. As the world continues to open up following an excruciating two years of a hard pandemic which affected all industries, people are sharing their stories on how they survived the COVID-19 pandemic financially when they couldn’t work.
The entertainment industry was not sparred as actors, actresses and media personalities felt the financial strain caused by the pandemic. Uzalo actress Noxolo Mathula recently opened up to Sunday World about how she had to start a business to survive when shooting for the Award winning show stopped.
Popularly known as Lily on Uzalo, the actress shared how she started a small catering business selling hot dogs when the pandemic hit. “With acting, it’s no work, no pay. I needed to provide for my family. The mindset of behaving like a celebrity was not going to put food on the table,” she told the publication. Whilst she’s back to full time actress mode on Uzalo, her business is continuing to grow with her mother taking over as the manager and now offering their services to other production houses around Durban. She also shared that the small business had added a container and a mobile kitchen to meet the demand.
The 28 year old also shared about her on-screen character growth and how she relates to her saying, “I love how Lily has grown because I also relate to her, any ordinary person can, because that’s how people grow in life. Lily went from being a distraction to Mxolisi, who loved money and drugs, to being someone who has made something of her life.”
