Media personality and radio host Unathi Nkanyi is making an exciting return to music with the release of her brand-new single, Isikhwele. The highly anticipated track is set to be released on Friday, 12 June 2026, and features kwaito star Professor alongside rising talent Meez.
The song explores the theme of jealousy in romantic relationships, a feeling that many people can relate to. With its powerful message and strong collaborations, Isikhwele is already creating excitement among fans ahead of its official release.
Unathi shared the big announcement with her followers on Instagram, where she unveiled the single’s cover artwork and revealed what fans can expect from the project. She wrote:
“ISIKHWELE. OUT JUNE 12. UNATHI x PROFESSOR Feat MEEZ. SINGLE and VIDEO on my YouTube channel. My LOVE letter to SOWETO. My ODE to South African Couture”
The post also included a short snippet of the song, giving fans a taste of its sound before the full release.
According to The Citizen, Unathi explained that working with Professor on the track was something she had wanted to do for a long time.
“I have admired Professor for years and wanted to release something meaningful before I release the full album this spring,” she said.
For Unathi, Isikhwele is more than just another single. It represents a new chapter in her artistic journey and highlights how she has evolved as a creative over the years.
“I’m really proud of how I’ve grown and evolved creatively, especially in a time where everything moves so fast with technology and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
“For me, it didn’t feel right to just drop a dance challenge and move on. I’ve always been known for telling deeper stories, and I wanted this release to reflect that.”
The project is accompanied by a music video that was directed and executive-produced by Unathi herself. The multi-talented broadcaster said she wanted to use her experience in media and storytelling to create something that would connect with audiences on a deeper level.
“I wanted to bring in my broadcasting knowledge and experience on this video. I wanted to tell a story through the film. I wanted to express myself in the creative direction, storyline, editing and styling. I wanted to show how my artistry has evolved.”
The music video also serves as a tribute to Soweto and has been intentionally released during the month that commemorates the Soweto Uprisings. Through the visuals, fashion and storytelling, Unathi hopes to celebrate the township’s culture, history and influence.
Isikhwele arrives ahead of Unathi’s upcoming album, African Love, which is expected to be released later this year.
