Unathi Pens A Heartfelt Goodbye Note To SA Idols As She Bids Farewell To The Competition. Last year in November the masses were shook after reports confirmed Unathi was indeed fired from Kaya FM effective immediately. This after the singer and TV personality had a falling out with co-worker Sizwe Dhlomo which led to a disciplinary hearing and ultimately getting the boot. It looks like Unathi will also be leaving another gig and fans are quite devastated by the news.
It was recently confirmed that Unathi who joined SA Idols in 2011 will not be appearing on the upcoming season 18 of the show and has left the panel for good. M-Net director of local entertainment channels Shirley Adonisi, confirmed to the media that her contract will not be renewed for the gig. According to Shirley, the show is going for a fresh approach to retain the audience and stay competitive in the Sunday night time slot.
“The channel will not be renewing their contracts with for the upcoming season of the popular singing show. We are taking a fresh approach to the judging panel to retain audiences and stay competitive in the Sunday night timeslot” Adonisi said.
Unathi has also confirmed the news on her social media with a heartfelt post bidding farewell to the show. Nkayi thanked the show for all that it has done for her over the years sharing the gig was a dream come true. The radio personality also thanked the contestants on the show for making her a part of their journeys, and she did not take the role lightly. Unathi is grateful that she was trusted enough by Mzansi to be a judge on the popular show for many years and is appreciative of all the laughs she has had on the show.
“THANK YOU. Oh man! Thank you for your love South Africa and our beautiful continent of Africa. Please allow me to honour you. You have been kind, loving and deeply invested. Truly the real energy and heartbeat of a wonderful wave of hope and dreams coming true on Idols and as you do that, you have made my dreams come true too. THANK YOU. To every contestant who stood in front of us. From the ones brave enough to share with us their hopes. I don’t take lightly the act of doing that for the world to see. An honour I will always hold. Thank you for trusting me as one of your judges. To those who unleashed a new level of my tears, heavily pregnant with Baby Idols garnering for Wooden Mic, thank you for the laughter and joy” she wrote.
Unathi continued to share how she will never forget the day she got the gig asking her to join the Idols family which in turn changed the lives of her family. Unathi shared how grateful she is to have worked with the team at MultiChoice and wished the new judges good luck for the journey ahead.
“I can never thank you enough Anneke, for making that call asking me to join the Idols family. Gav and Prozza thank you for trusting me with such a great responsibility. One that would form part of the narrative and soundtrack of our souls as a people. You changed my life and that of my family. To Multichoice, how humbling that you continue to make every boy and girl believe in themselves no matter which corner they come from, including me. To every special being who has given to the brilliance of the show. . It has been a true honour being part of the family. And to the new members of our family. GOODLUCK. THANK YOU to each and every one of you for pushing me to be the very best version of my self every Sunday for eleven years” she wrote.
Reports have also revealed that veteran judge Randall Abrahams who has been on the show since 2002 will also be leaving the show after two decades and we are excited to see what happens next. We are without a doubt going to miss Unathi’s hysterical laughter and her killer outfits on the show.
