The 2024 Top 16 Youth-Owned Brands Awards (YOBA) celebrated South Africa’s brightest young entrepreneurs, recognising their significant contributions to the economy and their role in job creation amidst the country’s high youth unemployment rate.

Among the notable winners was Thebe Magugu, who took home the Global Excellence Award. An acclaimed African fashion designer, Magugu has gained international recognition for his innovative designs and contributions to the fashion industry.

Robot Boii emerged as a standout at the awards, securing both the Top Personality and Influencer Award and the Overall Top Brand Award. Ecstatic about his achievements, Robot Boii shared his gratitude on Instagram, stating, “Dear Team, come this side. Big S/O to the @top16yoba & to everyone that voted. Ngiyabonga!!! Psalms23:5 ‘You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.'”

Big Brother Titans winner Khosi Twala was honoured in the Top Apparel Brand category for her Active Lifestyle Brands. She expressed her pride and excitement on Instagram, proclaiming, “I’m officially an award-winning entrepreneur. I’m so proud of @activelifestylebrands and I can’t wait for you to see our new collection! We also have exciting news. Thank you so much for nominating @activelifestylebrands and voting! I can’t believe I’m a testament of woman empowerment! I’ve gotten this far because of women! Women that carried my journey, and are extremely passionate about seeing other women win. Now let’s take @activelifestylebrands to the WOLDDDDD.”

Karabo Poppy, an illustrator and graphic designer, won the Top Creative and Art Brand category, further cementing her status as a leading figure in the creative industry.

The YOBA platform continues to highlight and support the incredible talent and entrepreneurial spirit of South Africa’s youth, celebrating their successes and inspiring future generations.
