South African fashion designer Thebe Magugu is marking the journey to his brand’s 10th anniversary in a bold and beautiful way. He has just launched the Girl Seeks Girl Ruffled Bohemia Dress, the first in a series of limited and special re-edition pieces.
Magugu’s label, which has gained international praise over the years, will celebrate its 10-year milestone in 2026. To build up to this special occasion, Thebe is revisiting some of the most memorable designs from his career.
“THEBE MAGUGU is turning 10 next year, and I wanted to celebrate this lead-up with renditions of key pieces that have come to define my ‘first decade’ codes,” said Magugu.
The Girl Seeks Girl print is one of those powerful pieces. It was originally created with artist Phathu Nembilwi and represents “sisterly solidarity.” The design shows two women leaning into each other for support, a strong symbol of unity and female connection. In the first version, one woman was shown crying, reflecting the emotional time during which the print was made. But in this updated version, she now looks calmly and directly at the viewer, suggesting peace and healing.
“This is one of my favourite and most relevant outputs,” Magugu added.
The new Bohemia Dress is made with soft, lightweight satin and features flowing panels along the arms and sides that move with the body. It comes with adjustable waist straps, giving the wearer the choice between a free, tent-style fit or a more fitted hourglass shape.
The look is completed with two unreleased accessories, the ‘After Tears’ Kitten Heel and the Knobkerrie Hair Pin. These pieces bring even more meaning and story to the outfit.
Fashion lovers might remember the original Girl Seeks Girl dress being recognized by one of the world’s top fashion institutions. It was acquired by the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York shortly after it was first revealed.
Magugu’s latest work not only celebrates a decade of design excellence but also continues to highlight powerful stories through fashion — stories of strength, healing, and sisterhood.
