After four years away from the small screen, fan-favourite Lesego Marakalla is making her much-anticipated return to Skeem Saam as the iconic Rachel Kunutu. The actress, who left the popular SABC1 soapie in June 2020, will make her dramatic on-screen comeback on 13 June 2025 at 19h30.
Her return marks a significant moment for both the show and its loyal viewers. SABC1 announced the news in a media statement, teasing a major twist as season 13 of the series heads towards its finale. “As season 13 of Skeem Saam approaches the finale, viewers can expect an unexpected twist,” the statement read.
Speaking about her return, Lesego Marakalla shared: “It feels good to be back. It is not only about me but is also about my supporters who appreciate my craft. They have been asking me when I will be returning to #SkeemSaam, and I’m happy to say that they will see me back on-screen playing Rachel very soon.”
Rachel, who left Turfloop under shady circumstances after stealing money and faking her death, comes back into the picture surrounded by more mystery and danger. She’s now tied to questionable new faces, including shady character Ghost, played by South African rapper and TV host Tshepo Howza Mosese, and Archie Nhlapo — raising concerns about what she’s really been up to during her absence.
To add to the tension, her ex-husband Marothi Maphuthuma, who has spent years searching for her, is back too. Played by Macks Senatla SaGa PAPO, Marothi is still haunted by Rachel’s betrayal. With his return also set for 13 June 2025, viewers are left wondering — is he seeking revenge, or does he still want his “Dynamite” back?
Marothi’s return has also sparked excitement from the actor himself. “I am very excited to be back, and I look forward to telling more compelling stories,” he shared.
With both Rachel and Marothi back in Turfloop and secrets on the verge of exploding, one thing is certain — season 13 is ending with a bang.
