The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice is now streaming on Showmax, with new episodes released every Thursday.
Produced by POP24, The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice offers an exclusive peek into the lives of glamorous mothers from Durban’s Indian community who seem to have it all. The show dives into the lively dynamics of these moms and their colourful extended families, highlighting how they balance running their personal empires while nurturing the next generation.
The cast includes Abigail Nepaul (41), Asharia Parsad (27), Christina Devraj (26), Devina Knowles (43), Kim Jones (33), Lenore Goss-Matjie (45), Neetasha Singh Bugwandin (36), and the twins Losh and Resh Naidoo (45).
We recently had the opportunity to speak with Kim, who spilled the tea on all the on-screen drama, being a new mother and so much more.
How was filming the show while pregnant?
Filming while pregnant is quite the experience! One minute, I’m melting from the heat; the next, I’m exhausted with swollen feet. There are countless bathroom breaks, and I’m constantly hungry. My hormones fluctuate from “cry me a river” to “rage against the machine.” However, this also helped me remain calm in many situations. I had to breathe and accept that keeping my mindset stress-free was essential for my little one.
During your lunch with Christina on episode 5, what was going through your mind?
Honestly, for a moment, I sat there in shock, but I mostly stayed calm, reminding myself that I had a baby on board. With the mantra “don’t stress yourself, mama,” I focused on keeping the baby safe, especially since, at eight months pregnant, anything could trigger early labour. Thankfully, we made it through!
Did you end up finding Christina’s bank card and lip gloss?
I did a thorough check in my bags, but I didn’t find any of her items.
Is there anything that happened during the picnic that viewers didn’t get to see?
There were quite a few moments that were left on the cutting room floor – scenes I later referenced on the show and hopefully viewers will get to see.
How is your relationship with your cast members?
I’d say my relationships, both on and off the show, are genuine. I have meaningful connections with some cast members, while with others, it’s not as close. That’s just the nature of life.
Which of your cast members do you have relationships with and which don’t you have relationships with?
I would say the closest relationships I’ve built are with the twins; we became friends from day one on set, so I’ve had the chance to really get to know them. I’ve also forged a connection with Asharia after the show, but I haven’t seen much of the other mommies.
Would you say your calmness comes from being a yogi?
Absolutely! Yoga and lots of meditation have played a significant role in my ability to stay calm.
As a new mom, what advice can you share?
Every day is a new opportunity to become the best version of yourself. The struggle is real, but the joy that motherhood brings is even brighter.
What is your favourite thing about being on a reality show?
I loved exploring the reality show world. Many people don’t realise how real it is! My favourite aspect is breaking the stereotypes surrounding reality TV.
Why should people keep watching?
There’s plenty more drama and spice on the way! I think viewers will enjoy watching the cast members reveal their true selves as they settle in. Plus, we’ll showcase the rich culture that hasn’t been fully explored yet.
