The Incredibles have stepped into a bold new chapter with their recently released EP Through The Fire — a six-track project that sits right at the centre of Gqom’s evolving sound. The release reflects their creative ambition and their commitment to pushing the genre forward while still respecting its roots.

The project introduces what they call a “new age Gqom” sound, blending traditional percussive energy with melodic layers and vocal-driven textures. It’s a statement piece — marking a turning point in their journey as artists shaping the next phase of the genre.

Speaking in an interview with OKMzansi Magazine, The Incredibles broke down the vision behind the EP, their sound, and what comes next.

1. Congratulations on the release of Through The Fire. What does this project represent for The Incredibles at this stage of your career?
Through The Fire represents growth and progression for us. It marks an important milestone as we formally introduce ourselves to the mainstream market and showcase our vision for the future of our sound.

2. The EP is described as helping define the next phase of Gqom’s resurgence. How do you see the genre evolving, and what role do you hope The Incredibles will play in that evolution?
We would love to be remembered as pioneers and risk-takers who helped push the genre forward. Our goal is to represent Gqom on the international stage while showing that it can evolve, connect with new audiences, and remain culturally relevant without losing its identity.

3. You describe your sound as “new age Gqom.” What distinguishes this approach from traditional Gqom, and how did you develop that creative direction?
For us, the foundation will always be Gqom. What makes it “new age” is our willingness to introduce fresh elements that allow the sound to connect with artists and influences from different genres. It’s about respecting the roots while creating space for innovation and growth

4. The project incorporates influences from Bacardi, rap, and melodic song structures. How did you balance experimentation while preserving the core
identity of Gqom?

We always start with the essence of Gqom and build from there. The additional influences are carefully layered in to enhance the music rather than overpower it. That balance allows us to experiment creatively while ensuring the heartbeat of the genre remains intact.

5. The single “Available” was integrated into the EP’s opening movement. Why was it important to include the track as part of the larger project narrative?
“Available” was the first song where we intentionally explored collaborations with artists from different genres. The artists featured on the track are highly respected and influential, and the song represents an important step in our creative journey. Including it on the EP felt like a natural way to introduce listeners to the project’s broader vision.

6. As executive producers, how did Tyson and Adam ensure the EP maintained a cohesive sound while featuring multiple artists and creative perspectives?
We were very intentional about the structure of the project. The EP includes four vocal tracks and two instrumental pieces, creating a balance between songs listeners can sing along to and moments where they can simply enjoy the rhythm and energy of the music. That balance helped create a cohesive listening experience from start to finish.

7. The EP took a year to complete. What were some of the biggest creative challenges and breakthroughs you experienced during the recording process?
One of the biggest challenges was coordinating schedules and getting everyone into the studio at the right time. However, those challenges also led to some of our biggest breakthroughs, as every collaboration brought fresh ideas and helped shape the final project into something special.

8. You mention wanting to create the Gqom you felt was missing. What specific elements or qualities did you believe were absent from the genre, and how does Through The Fire address that gap?
We felt there was room for more cross-genre collaboration and experimentation within Gqom. The genre has incredible energy and potential, and we wanted to explore how it could interact with different sounds and artists while remaining authentic. Through The Fire reflects that vision by bringing together diverse influences and creative voices.

9. Beyond the music, you speak about building an “Incredible Family.” How important is community-building to your long-term vision as artists?
Community is a huge part of our vision. We don’t want this journey to be about individual success – we want it to be something we build together with the people who support us. The goal is to create a movement where everyone involved can look back one day and say, “We achieved this together.”

10. With plans for a tour, merchandise, and curated events already in development, what can fans expect from the next chapter of The Incredibles following the release of Through The Fire?
Fans can expect more music, more ambitious projects, and exciting international collaborations. We’re focused on expanding our reach, growing the brand, and creating experiences that bring people closer to the music and the culture we’re building around it.
