Sweet Guluva Makes Acting Debut on Amalanga Awafani

Akhonamathemba Mbele-Zwane, professionally known as Sweet Guluva, is stepping into a brand-new chapter of his career as he makes his acting debut on SABC 1’s popular drama series Amalanga Awafani.

The South African actor, singer, influencer and television personality is set to join the cast of the drama, bringing his personality and entertainment experience to the small screen in a role that appears to be a perfect fit for his talents.

According to entertainment commentator @TvblogbyMLU, Sweet Guluva and Thandeka Nodada are joining the cast of Amalanga Awafani on SABC 1.

Actor and reality television star Akhonamathemba ‘Sweet Guluva’ Zwane joins the cast of Amalanga Awafani making his debut on Friday, 11 September 2026 playing the role of Ngwenya, the firm but entertaining restaurant manager at the local watering hole.

Award-winning actress Thandeka Nodada will also make her debut on Tuesday, 29th September 2026 as Nandipha, a sophisticated and influential businesswoman who enters Thembi’s life as a mentor.

For Sweet Guluva, the opportunity carries an especially personal meaning. While many viewers know him through his television and entertainment work, acting has apparently been one of his long-standing passions.

According to TSVA Team, “I am happy about the opportunity to play Ngwenya on Amalanga Awafani since a lot of people don’t  know that one of my first loves was acting.

“When I got a call back from the producers, I saw this as a once in a lifetime opportunity – the show is set in Nquthu, and I am also from Nquthu.

“The series resonates with me as it is about drama and music. I love acting and I make music. Viewers can expect some seriously funny moments with a firm character”.

His connection to Nquthu adds another meaningful layer to his debut. With the series being set in the area he also calls home, Sweet Guluva gets the chance to bring his acting skills to a story and environment that resonate with him personally.

Fans can expect to see a different side of the entertainer as he takes on the character of Ngwenya, a firm but entertaining restaurant manager who is bound to bring his own flavour to the local watering hole.

With Sweet Guluva bringing his energy and humour, and Thandeka Nodada adding her award-winning acting experience, the latest cast additions are set to bring fresh personalities and new storylines to Amalanga Awafani.

Amalanga Awafani airs Monday to Friday at 18h30 on SABC1 and is available on SABC Plus.
