South African singer Naledi Aphiwe has shared heartbreaking news with her fans after losing her entire music catalogue on YouTube.
The talented singer revealed that her official YouTube Artist Channel, along with years of music and content, was removed from the platform without her authorisation. The unexpected setback comes just weeks before the release of her highly anticipated upcoming EP.
According to a press release shared on her behalf, the removal has already lasted almost two weeks, with Naledi and her team working to have the catalogue restored.
The press release reads: “Naledi Aphiwe’s official YouTube Artist Channel, along with her existing catalogue, has been removed from the platform without her authorisation, just weeks ahead of the release of her upcoming EP. It has now been almost two weeks since the unauthorised removal, and despite extensive efforts by Naledi and her team, her catalogue has yet to be restored.
The removed catalogue, which had accumulated more than 120 million views, comprised music videos, audio visualisers and other content that played a significant role in Naledi’s career. Beyond the numbers, the channel formed an important part of her artistic identity and served as a bridge connecting her music with millions of listeners around the world.”
The loss is significant for the singer, especially considering that her catalogue had already generated more than 120 million views. Her YouTube presence was not only a platform for her music but also an important part of her journey as an artist.
Despite the difficult situation, Naledi is choosing to look ahead rather than allow the setback to define her career. Her team has called on her loyal supporters, known as the Starlites, as well as members of the media and the wider music community, to stand behind her during this new chapter.
The statement continued: “We call on her loyal supporters, the Starlites, as well as members of the media and the broader music community, to rally behind her and support her next chapter. While circumstances beyond the artist’s control may have disrupted access to her past work, they will not determine the direction of her future.”
As an independent artist, Naledi is now taking matters into her own hands by launching a new official YouTube channel. Her upcoming EP and future releases will be uploaded to the new platform as she continues building her career.
The press release concluded: “As a fully independent artist, Naledi Aphiwe is moving forward with a new official YouTube channel. Her upcoming EP, as well as all future releases and projects thereafter, will be housed under a new official platform as she continues to build, expand and take ownership of her career.”
