The unfortunate news of Africa’s first Netflix Original series Queen Sono starring Pearl Thusi and heart throb actor Vuyo Dabula has been confirmed to be cancelled by the network and creator of the mini action series, Kagiso Lediga.

A few months ago, the series received the green light for the second season of Queen Sono however, it looks like unforeseen circumstances have taken over, forcing the production to cancel the shoot. Channel 24 has since reported that due to the affects of COVID-19, the series had no choice but to abandon their plans for another successful season.

“We’ve made the difficult decision to not move on with season 2 of Queen Sono” a spokesperson stated.

Adding to the statement, the production and the streaming platform shared how grateful they are to have had a team dedicated to making the vision come to fruition and they thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity, labelling the circumstance as unfortunate.

Lead actress Pearl Thusi also commented on the news  sharing that she is pleased to have been part of the incredible opportunity to make history, as there will never be another “first African Original Netflix series” again.
