Amapiano sensation Scotts Maphuma has publicly apologised after failing to appear at a major event in Mozambique, the National Children’s Day Festival. The festival is one of the country’s biggest annual events, and fans, especially children, were left disappointed when the Yebo Lapho hitmaker did not show up as expected.
According to reports by Daily Sun, Scotts missed the performance due to a flight delay caused by his prior commitment to another festival in Mozambique. Although he eventually arrived, it was after the event had ended. His absence reportedly led to a brief detention by Mozambican authorities, but he was later released.
In his apology, Scotts explained that the situation was beyond his control. “It was unfortunate that we missed our flight because of the work that we had. Obviously, we tried. We never gave up. We always tried to get to the gig no matter how late we are because we believe it’s better late than never.”
He also expressed sincere regret to the children and families who came out to see him. “I’m a man of my word. I believe in the truth. I think it is fair if I pay them their money,” he said, pledging to refund the full booking fee.
Scotts stressed that, although he is under management and not involved in travel arrangements, he believed the team was doing its best to ensure he could still perform. “So, what I knew was that they will push the time, in another way, I will perform when I get there. That is why we went there from the airport. So, in other words, if we agreed that it would never happen anymore, I don’t think we would go from the airport to the first gig.”
Despite the delay, he said he and his team were committed to honouring their performance and did everything they could to make it to the venue. “It was unfortunate that when we arrived there, people were not there anymore,” he added.
Scotts also made it clear that he takes every performance seriously. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s an event for children or adults, I represent a brand. A brand is also closely linked to money, and I take that seriously.”
With this latest apology for the Mozambique festival no-show, Scotts Maphuma is trying to make amends and restore trust with both fans and event organisers. “I know that feelings hurt, and a lot has happened,” he said. “But I’m truly sorry, and I’ll do better.”
