Award-winning actress Samkelo Ndlovu, best known for her role as Minky in Adulting, is set to return to television screens this May in a brand-new mini-series titled Kuningi. The actress will take on a leading role in the compelling drama that promises emotional depth, suspense, and powerful storytelling.

The series follows a single mother who lands the opportunity of a lifetime, only to find herself confronted by “ghosts from her past, unearthing unresolved issues.” It is described as a gripping narrative centred on a woman whose dream opportunity quickly turns into a journey of emotional reckoning and personal discovery.

Kuningi is set to premiere on Mzansi Magic on DStv Channel 161 on 18 May at 7pm. The mini-series is part of a wider slate of new productions launching on the channel, which includes ten new mini-series airing every Monday to Wednesday at 7PM over a 10-week period, starting from 11 May 2026 and continuing into July.

The series is produced by Weldun Media, known for titles such as Entabeni and Choose May’khethela. Alongside Samkelo Ndlovu, the cast includes Simphiwe Ngema, Kay Sibiya, Andy Mnguni, and Ratanang Mogotsi, bringing together a strong ensemble of local talent.

Shirley Adonisi, Channel Director for Local Entertainment Channels, said, “We are excited to be sharing stories made by exciting, talented teams who really have their finger on the pulse.”

She added that the mini-series format plays an important role in developing the local industry: “The mini-series format is a really important part of how we support industry development and create opportunities for creatives… That shift isn’t just about format – it’s about growing new skills in writing, directing and production.”

Adonisi also highlighted that the format offers “complete, high-quality stories that viewers can finish quickly with no long-series fatigue,” blending cinematic storytelling with strong character-driven drama.

Other upcoming mini-series include Love at Second Sight, Amanzi Endlini, Ke Nyala Jwang?, Lobola lama 2000, and Mamfundisi Bae.
