Former Springbok WAG Rachel Kolisi has been recognised for her powerful work in social justice and community upliftment. She was honoured with a Women of Wonder (WOW) Award at the 11th annual ceremony, held in Cape Town on 30 August.
The WOW Awards are a global celebration of women who inspire others through leadership, philanthropy, and social impact. The awards are hosted in major cities around the world, including Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Mauritius, Dubai, Qatar, London, and India.
According to The Citizen, when announcing her recognition, organisers described Rachel as “a dynamic and influential leader, recognised for her dedication to social justice, philanthropy, and community empowerment.” They further praised her efforts, adding: “Rachel’s focus on gender-based violence has led to the implementation of initiatives that provide support and resources to survivors while advocating for systemic change.”
Rachel co-founded the Kolisi Foundation in 2021 with her ex-husband, Siya Kolisi, who is the captain of the Springboks. Under her leadership, the foundation has worked tirelessly to fight gender-based violence, while also supporting programmes that empower women and children. In addition, the foundation has introduced projects that improve education, sports development, and food security in vulnerable communities.
Receiving the award was a proud moment for Rachel, who shared her gratitude on social media. She expressed how honoured she felt, writing:
“So incredibly grateful to have received an award from @womenofwonder_aw / @panachewowawards. It was such a beautiful evening celebrating so many amazing people doing powerful work in SA.”
She also took the opportunity to share her stunning look for the evening. The theme of the awards ceremony was “diamonds and decadence,” and Rachel dazzled in elegant jewellery, saying, “My @brownsjewellers family allowed me to wear some of their most celebrated pieces.”
Her recognition at the WOW Awards highlights the incredible impact she has made beyond being known as the former wife of a sports star. Rachel has established herself as a strong voice for justice, equality, and community growth.
