Actress, DJ, and media star Pearl Thusi brought her energy and passion to the Global Citizen NOW: Johannesburg summit held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 21 November 2025. Pearl was one of the hosts for the major event, which focused on women empowerment, innovation, and Africa’s renewable energy future.
She excitedly shared behind-the-scenes moments from the day. Pearl wrote, “We did what needed to be done at 12:00 thanks to my diligent activist @thandomokoena while shooting visuals for my music dropping next week (eeeeek). But right now—we’re pushing the agendas of the women of South Africa and the incredible work of entrepreneurs around the world that are getting support from @glblctzn and @paypal. Pearl also expressed her gratitude for being part of such an important global gathering. She said, “Today is all about Global Citizen at the G20 and I’m proud to be one of the hosts of today’s Panel discussions and more. I’m so honoured @glblctzn @glblctznafrica.” Her message reflected her pride in using her platform to highlight causes that matter—especially equality, innovation, and opportunities for women and young entrepreneurs.
Another major highlight of the summit was actress and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha, who also served as a host. Nomzamo shared her excitement, saying, “The week that was with @glblctzn. So wonderful to have hosted the first ever Global Citizen NOW: Johannesburg summit on the sidelines of the G20 Summit that is a landmark gathering that spoke on driving Africa’s clean energy future.” Her message echoed the purpose of the event, which focused on real, measurable change for the continent.
This year’s Global Citizen NOW: Johannesburg action summit was especially significant. It marked the start of the year-long Scaling Up Renewables in Africa (SURA) campaign, a major initiative aimed at increasing renewable energy investments across Africa. The summit brought together government leaders, private sector investors, philanthropies, and grassroots advocates to discuss solutions that can move Africa toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
